Ms. Nele

Nele Burns joins the COMS team after 20 years of singing, dancing, storytelling, building and creating with kindergarten age children. After receiving her BA in Early Childhood Education from Roosevelt University she started her job in the south loop and became hooked on this transformative year for children. The intricate work of discovering each child’s journey and which work will reveal who they are motivated Nele to continue work in the field of child development and education. She earned her MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University and participated in piloting social emotional, reading, writing and math programs as well as neuromotor movement training.

When Nele entered Council Oak for the first time she couldn’t stop smiling because, spending just one hour observing in the classroom, she knew what she had been pursuing all of these years was synthesized here and by the work of Maria Montessori. She witnessed her own children coming into their own and thriving in this environment which motivated her to pursue a Montessori Certificate at Seton Montessori Institute. Nele continues to use every opportunity she can to spend time outdoors, make things by hand and take time to marvel at the wonders of nature.
